A Marginal Jew, Rethinking the Historical Jesus: Volume 2, Mentor, Message, and Miracles.
John P. Meier.
Doubleday. 1994.
ISBN: 978038549920.

A Marginal Jew, Rethinking the Historical Jesus: Volume 2 is John P. Meier’s second major volume in his historical-Jesus series, titled Mentor, Message, and Miracles. It examines Jesus’ relation to John the Baptist, the central message of the Kingdom of God, and the gospel traditions about miracles. The book is known for its careful, critical method and its effort to distinguish historically likely material from later theological interpretation.

John P. Meier was an American Catholic priest and biblical scholar, born in New York City in 1942 and died in 2022 at age 80. He taught New Testament and theology at St. Joseph’s Seminary, the Catholic University of America, and later the University of Notre Dame, where he became professor emeritus. He was widely regarded as one of the leading historical Jesus scholars of his generation.
