From Child Sexual Abuse to Adult Sexual Risk: Trauma, Revictimisation and Intervention.
Editors: I.J. Koenig, L.S. Doll, A. O’Leary & W. Pequegnat.
American Psychological Association.
2003. ISBN: 9781591470304.

From Child Sexual Abuse to Adult Sexual Risk is an edited volume that synthesises theory, epidemiology, and clinical research on how childhood sexual abuse (CSA) shapes sexual health and risk-taking in adulthood. The book examines links between CSA and adult outcomes such as unwanted pregnancy, sexually transmitted infections, HIV, and increased vulnerability to adult sexual victimisation. It highlights that sexually abused children are more likely to engage in behaviours like unprotected sex and multiple partnerships, which in turn elevate later health risks.

The volume brings together contributors from epidemiology, traumatology, prevention science, and clinical psychology to bridge basic trauma research with applied practice. Sections cover: descriptive epidemiology of CSA and adult risk; theoretical bases for revictimisation; gendered patterns of impact; and the interplay of cognitive, social, and behavioural consequences of trauma for adult sexual functioning.

I.J. Koenig is a researcher whose work has focused on links between childhood sexual abuse, trauma, and subsequent sexual health and risk, often in public-health and HIV‑prevention contexts.

L. S. Doll is an epidemiologist/public-health researcher
associated with work on HIV/AIDS, sexually transmitted infections, and violence/abuse as risk factors, contributing to CDC‑related and other public‑health initiatives.

A. O’Leary is a clinical and health psychologist whose research has addressed HIV prevention, sexual risk behaviour, gender and power in relationships, and trauma among women and other vulnerable groups.

W. Pequegnat is a programme officer and research administrator (notably at NIH/NIMH) known for advancing research programs on HIV prevention, family and community interventions, and the impact of abuse and trauma on sexual health.
