Ludwig van Beethoven composed his Fate Symphony, one of the best known classical musical compositions, between 1804 and 1808. He dedicated this Symphony to his two patrons, Prince Joseph Franz von Lobkowtiz and Count Razumovsky. It was first performed in Vienna’s Theater an der Wien in 1808. At this time, Beethoven was in his mid-thirties and was troubled by increasing deafness. The Napoleonic Wars was also in full swing. The work consisted of four movements, with a repeated opening four-note rhythmic motif unifying it. The Symphony lasts around 40 minutes, and it introduces the first use of the Piccolo, contrabassoon and the trombone. The four albums are: Beethoven, Symphonies Nos. 5 & 7. Carlos Kleiber and Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. Release Date: 20 Feb 1995. Lebel: Deutsche Grammophon. Beethoven, 9 Symphonies. Herbert von Karajan and Berliner Philharmoniker.
